Speakers

Rebecca Prichard, Head of Business Banking at Triodos Bank
Rebecca joined the bank in September 2013 and leads the team responsible for UK business banking activities with SMEs, social enterprises and charities, with particular focus on the Environmental, Food & Farming, and Social and cultural sectors.

Rebecca has nearly 30 years experience in the financial services sector, and began her career as a corporate relationship banker with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, before relocating to the UK in 1989 to join the bank’s Project Finance team, where she advised and financed major infrastructure projects in Europe. Rebecca then joined accountancy firm Grant Thornton in Bristol, where she established a Government & Infrastructure advisory team advising public sector procurers and private sector contractors on long term public-private partnerships for capital projects in education, environmental services, housing, health and blue light services.

Martin Sawyer, Soil Association Certification CEO
Martin’s working background is very much in business leading roles in freshly prepared foods, food service and fresh produce. Before joining Soil Association Certification, he has been involved with Bakkavor, Premier Foods, Bomfords, Oscar Mayer, Northern Foods and Geest.

He has over 30 years’ experience of dealing with senior players in UK and European retailing and has led strategic change, business turnaround, organic and acquisition growth during this time. He retains an interest in this sector, being both a shareholder and non-exec director of an award winning bakery manufacturing business.

Phil Haughton, Founder of the Better Food Company
Phil founded the award-winning Better Food Company in 1992. He has been living, working and breathing organic food from the age of 14 when he first became a member of the Soil Association. He started his career in 1974 farming organically in a community in Scotland before moving to Bristol in 1981 and working at Windmill Hill City Farm for several years, where he worked with kids and adults teaching them about food and farming. He now has vast experience spanning over 42 years in farming, growing, retailing, wholesaling and delivering organic food, community building and is always looking for new ways of spreading the organic word and building a better, more sustainable world.

Simon Crichton, Food Farming and Trade Team Manager at Triodos Bank
Simon leads Triodos Bank’s specialist organic food, farming and trade team.

He joined Triodos Bank in 2009 having completed a Degree in Agriculture at Harper Adams and worked as a farm consultant. He has nearly 20 years’ experience in agricultural banking and still learning.

Triodos actively supports the organic market by lending to some of the UK's leading organic businesses - from farmers, producers and processors to retailers and restaurants.

Simon is on the Organic Trade Board and involved with number of other organisations supporting a sustainable approach to business.
